Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House, one of the most iconic designs of all Australia and of 20th century architecture, makes up part of the skyline at Sydney Harbour. In 2023, its 50th anniversary jubilee year, the performing arts center celebrated half a century of presenting world-class culture spanning the genres of opera, music, theatre, and ballet shows in Australia.
The Sydney Opera House was designed by Jørn Utzon, a then unknown Danish architect who won the 1956 competition thanks to the decision of its jury comprised of architects Ingram Ashworth, Dr J Leslie Martin, Cobden Parkes, and Eero Saarinen.
The Sydney Opera House also boasts positions as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2007), on the Australian National Heritage List (2005), and declared on the New South Wales Heritage Register (20023).
