Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has an online video series called The Local that focuses on the cultural offerings of their port destinations. This particular episode shares the story of Gabriel and her life as a student at the Cuban National Ballet School; she is dedicated to one day becoming a dancer with National Ballet of Cuba, her dream to be Odette/Odile in Swan Lake.
So if you happen to be a ballet lover on a cruise that has a call in Havana, check out the National Ballet of Cuba’s schedule – el Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso is within walking distance of the cruise terminal. Perhaps there’s an opportunity see a performance in a place where the pride and love of ballet is as big as the island is small.
