A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Choreographer: David Bintley
Audiences in Helsinki are awaiting the highly-anticipated world premiere of David Bintley’s A Christmas Carol set to a new composition by Sally Beamish. This marks the second time these creators have worked together, the first being The Tempest.
Bintley’s balletic interpretation of Charles Dicken’s tale of the same name is one of only a few in the dance space and the first in Finland, and celebrates an idea in the making of over four decades.
The former Birmingham Royal Ballet Artistic Director explains:
“A Christmas Carol is a company piece, as it has countless small characters. Every little role has an impact on Scrooge – they all contribute to his recognition of what he is and what he has done.”
Along with Bintley and Beamish, the creative team behind A Christmas Carol also includes set, costume, and projection designer Anna Fleischle and lighting designer Mark Henderson.
The Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera will be led under the baton of Paul Murphy who also serves as the Principal Conductor of Birmingham Royal Ballet.
On the stage, the principal casting for the ballet is:
- Johan Pakkanen, Antti Keinänen, Sergei Popov(Scrooge)
- Michal Krčmář, Florian Modan, Clark Eselgroth, Jun Xia (Young Scrooge)
- Abigail Sheppard, Violetta Keller, Eun-Ji Ha, Yuka Masumoto (Bella, Scrooge’s fiancée)
