Starting next month Northern Ballet embarks on their Beauty & the Beast tour, gracing stages in Nottingham, Newcastle, and Norwich.
Choreographed by the esteemed David Nixon CBE, this mesmerizing reimagining of the timeless fairytale promises to whisk theatergoers away to a vivid world teeming with fairies, goblins, and sprites.
Nixon’s choreography is complemented by Duncan Hayler’s elaborate mirrored sets and haute couture-style costumes. The production is further elevated by a captivating score of classic compositions, featuring the timeless works of Bizet and Debussy, performed live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.
“Beauty & the Beast” spins the age-old narrative of selflessness and love. It follows the journey of Beauty, who makes a courageous decision to sacrifice her own comforts and security by moving into the ominous castle of a hideous Beast, all in exchange for her father’s life.
As time unfurls its mysterious tapestry, Beauty unexpectedly finds herself developing an unusual fondness for her host, unraveling an extraordinary secret hidden beneath his grotesque exterior.
The Beast was once a handsome prince, cursed by the unforgiving hand of fate for his vanity and arrogance. His salvation hinges on the power of true love, the only force potent enough to break the curse’s formidable grip.
