The Ballet Arizona 2024-2025 Season, the company’s 39th, is highlighted by the United States premiere of Frida, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s ballet inspired by the life of the Mexican artist originally commissioned by Dutch National Ballet in 2020. With musical accompaniment from The Phoenix Symphony playing Peter Salem’s commissioned score, the dancers will perform a powerful retelling of Frida Kahlo’s life story using the Mexican painter’s motifs, paintings, and dreams.

Other full-length ballets include Swan Lake (Ib Andersen), shaped by Tchaikovsky’s breathtaking score (played by The Phoenix Symphony) and depicts the heartache and woe of two doomed lovers and the evil forces that come between them, and The Nutcracker (Andersen), follows Clara’s wintry adventures as she battles mischievous mice and charms the Sugar Plum Fairy. The dancing is accompanied by The Phoenix Symphony playing Tchaikovsky’s iconic music.

The All Balanchine program features the master’s Western Symphony, Scotch Symphony, and Walpurgisnacht) while a repertory evening – Spring Mix – features Christopher Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour and brings neoclassical and contemporary works to Arizona audiences.

“We are thrilled to present our 2024-2025 season featuring a highly anticipated U.S. premiere and several iconic ballet classics. This season will elevate the ballets we know and love with performances that promise to entertain and transport audiences into a world of fiction and history.”
