National Ballet of Ukraine

The National Ballet of Ukraine 2024-2025 season, which begins with a tour of the United States, kicks off on October 8th in the nation’s capital. The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. is the first venue of sixteen that the company, accompanied by the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, will perform a repertory program of classical ballets including excerpts from Don Quixote, Giselle, and La Bayadère, as well as several folkloric dances.

 “This production will be a thrilling showcase of the artistry of the National Ballet of Ukraine’s superb dancers and Shumka’s unbelievably exciting choreography. The 3D LED screen will envelop the audience, erasing the line between viewers and the stage.

As the only dance company officially touring under the auspices of the Ukrainian government, NBU’s company serve as ambassadors to the United States, affirming that even during the most difficult of times Ukrainians remain strong, vigilant and proud of their nation and heritage.”

Oksana Markarova, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, adds that, “this tour represents much more than a typical dance performance; it is a symbol of the resilience and bravery of the embattled Ukrainian people, and an opportunity for Ukraine to celebrate its rich and remarkable cultural legacy. The dancers are not just showcasing Ukrainian culture, they are preserving it.”

Portions of the proceeds from ticket and merchandising sales will benefit HUMANITE, a non-profit organization that provides resources for refugees and war survivors, and the Ukraine House, a philanthropic establishment opened in September of 2021 to aid Ukrainians affected by the ongoing war.
