The Finnish National Ballet 2024-2025 Season, the first one fully curated by Artistic Director Javier Torres, explores the human condition through several full-length works.

Opening the season is Torres’ version of The Sleeping Beauty. Then, Jorma Elo’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, John Neumeier’s Death in Venice, and David Nixon’s A Christmas Carol are joined by the world premiere ballet by Reija Wäre inspired by the life of Édith Piaf.

For the latter, the choreography will be complemented by Erika Turunen’s costume design, Jani Uljas’s set design, and Joonas Tikkanen’s lighting and video design. The score, which draws inspiration from Piaf’s repertoire, is composed by Jukka Nykänen

The only mixed repertory program, “T(r)anssi, is a triple bill that will captivate the audience with a combination of movement, emotion, and mental energy. It features Sol León and Paul Lightfoot’s Signing Off set to Philip Glass’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, William Forsythe’s Playlist (Track 1 ,2) set to Peven Everett and Lion Babe’s soul and house rhythms, and Sharon Eyal’s Half Life created in collaboration with multimedia artist Gai Behar.
