BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Choreographer: Lew Christensen
Set to Tchaikovsky’s original music, Lew Christensen’s Beauty and the Beast comes alive again when Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre returns to the Benedum Center for a two-weekend run.
“I am thrilled to bring this beautiful, romantic ballet back to the Benedum stage. The emotion and charm that it exudes, coupled with its magnificent choreography make it an incredibly iconic work.”
– Adam W. McKinney, Artistic Director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre
Accompanying the family-friendly performances are a series of other events to be held at the theater. The Opening Night Preview will feature a special introduction to the ballet by Leslie Young, who is répétiteur of Beauty and the Beast and other works by Christensen, as well as a faculty member of Miami City Ballet School. Kristin McLain, PBT’s costume director, will host a storytime and craft workshop.
Artist Q&A sessions and Curtain Up! provide audience members the opportunity to hear directly from the artistic team and watch the end of the company’s class on stage, respectively.
