San Francisco Ballet’s upcoming 8-performance Swan Lake run in Madrid, Spain marks the company’s debut in the capital city and the first international tour under the direction of Tamara Rojo.
“Returning to my home country of Spain with San Francisco Ballet is a dream come true, and I am simply thrilled to present Swan Lake in Madrid, and at the beautiful Teatro Real. I am especially excited and proud to present the extraordinary dancers of this great company in this fantastic production of Swan Lake to the discerning audiences of Spain” said Rojo.
Helgi Tomasson’s version of this epitome of classical ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score will be accompanied by the Orquesta Titular del Teatro Real under the direction of SF Ballet Music Director and Principal Conductor Martin West.
Although maintaining Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s original second act, the former San Francisco Ballet Artistic Director’s choreography adds a divertissement in the third act, showcases the male dancers in the first act, and highlights the swan corps de ballet throughout.
