ROMEO AND JULIET
Choreographer: Edwaard Liang

Tulsa Ballet
Romeo and Juliet

In two weeks, Tulsa Ballet returns to Tulsa Performing Arts Center with audience favorite Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Edwaard Liang, Artistic Director of BalletMet and The Washington Ballet. The production was originally created for the company back in 2012 and continues to stand the test of time in the company’s repertoire.

“Edwaard has created a lasting masterpiece with his Romeo and Juliet. The entire work is well-structured, filled with exciting dance, perilous sword fights, romantic duets and heart-wrenching segments. No matter how many times I see this ballet, how many times I rehearse it and how well I know it, I always find myself in tears at the end of the show.”

– Marcello Angelini, Artistic Director of Tulsa Ballet

The dancers, clad in designes by the late David Walker, will be accompanied by the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra interpreting Sergei Prokofiev’s unmistakeable score. Of the music’s inspiration for his work, Liang explains, “Everyone falls in love with the score. Prokofiev was really able to tell the story through the music… I wanted to do so much justice for the musical score and the dance company.”

This program also marks the final one for Tulsa Ballet Principal Dancer and Ballet Master Arman Zazyan who will take his final bow in the role of Tybalt.
