The Oregon Ballet Theatre 2024-2025 Season marks the company’s 35th anniversary and offers Portland audiences four full-length story ballets and a program of one-act works.

Featured are Artistic Director Dani Rowe’s world premiere Marilyn, inspired by the life of one of Hollywood’s most famous stars, and her reenvisioning of Giselle along with former Principal Dancer of San Francisco Ballet Tiit Helimets.

Opening the season is Loughlan Prior’s Hansel and Gretel set to an original score from Claire Cowan, followed by the annual production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker.

The only mixed repertory program closes the season. Titled “The OBT Collection”, it features:

  • For Pixie is a haunting pas de deux set to Nina Simone’s “Wild is the Wind”, inspired by Dani Rowe’s own grandparents’ fierce and unconventional love story.
  • Quartet for Five, by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, infuses warmth and tenderness in an intensely physical contemporary work set to music by Philip Glass performed by members of the OBT Orchestra.
  • Nicolas Blanc will create a new work on the company, combining pure classicism and fresh, contemporary edge.
  • A work from 2024’s OBT by Design program will join the other one-act ballets in this program.

“This season is not just about stellar performances – it’s about continuing a legacy. I am excited to build a new canon of work, standing on the shoulders of OBT’s already rich history of exciting dance works.

Together with our brilliant dancers and artists, we aim to present captivating stories and dance performances that resonate deeply with our community.”
