Les Grands Ballets 2025-2026 Season

The Les Grands Ballets 2025-2026 season, highlighted by Artistic Director Ivan Cavallari’s reinterpretation of Swan Lake, also brings three other world premieres to Montreal audiences.
The season opens with the triple bill Bella Figura featuring the titular ballet by Jiří Kylián, Voluntaries by Glen Tetley, and Fête sauvage by Hélène Blackburn, followed by Étienne Béchard’s interpretation of the Brothers Grimm tale in his Snow White and the Mirror. In the latter, the choreographer engages compositions by Bach, Saint-Saëns, and Dukas to help delve into the profoundness of the fairy tale, using the mirror as a symbol for reflection of the fragility and strength of the human soul.
Other full-length works to be performed are the perennial The Nutcracker (Fernand Nault) which celebrated six decades in 2024, Uwe Scholz’s The Creation inspired by Joseph Haydn’s oratorio exploring the Book of Genesis, and Cavallari’s The Lake, his contemporary telling of the epitome of classical ballet, which closes the season.
The Blue Hour, in Spring 2026, is a double-bill of works by two local, female choreographers – Anne Plamondon and Vanesa Garcia-Ribala Montoya. Plamondon’s Ma Saude is an ode to memory and nostalgia set to original scores while, conversely, Garcia-Ribala Montoya’s From the Sun to the Moon which exudes energy and color drawing from the choreographer’s Spanish and African cultural heritage.
Les Grands Ballets 2024-2025 Season

The Les Grands Ballets 2024-2025 season marks two significant milestones in the company’s history: the 100th birthday of its founder, Ludmilla Chiriaeff, and the 60th anniversary of Fernand Nault’s Nutcracker.
This tribute to Chiriaeff highlights the life and achievements through the artistic brilliance of those she met or who were influenced by her legacy. The works include The Four Temperaments (George Balanchine), Le Funambule (Ginette Laurin), Desire (James Kudelka), and Continuum (Jean Grand-Maître).
“I invite you to experience these works through the lens of love, a feeling so deep that it allows us to touch eternity.”
Ivan Cavallari, Artistic Director of Les Grands Ballet
The season opens with the triple-bill, Maestro which includes two pieces by Jiří Kylián – Petite Mort and Sechs Tänze – each one imbued with the playfulness specific to Mozart’s compositions, and Garrett Smith’s Symphony No. 5 set to Beethoven’s composition of the same name.
2025 showcases the company in three story ballets by Marcia Haydée (The Sleeping Beauty), Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Vendetta), and Marina Villanueva (Don Quixote).
