It has just been announced that Alexei Ratmansky joins Dutch National Ballet as Associate Artist. The world-renowned choreographer, who just last year signed a five-year contract as New York City Ballet‘s Artist in Residence, was appointed by Dutch National Ballet’s Artistic Director Ted Brandsen.
“Alexei Ratmansky is a master at combining classical ballet traditions with modern influences, creating works that feel timeless yet innovative, whether in his reconstructions of great classics or new abstract ballets.
Ratmansky’s work demonstrates the deep connection between music and movement, making dance a living, breathing art form. Through his creations, he continues to push the boundaries of ballet and enrich the art form for generations to come.
The appointment of Alexei Ratmansky as Associate Artist is therefore very valuable for the company. It perpetuates and deepens the close bond between Ratmansky and the Dutch National Ballet that began in 2008 with the European premiere of his Russian Seasons.
The fact that Het Nationale Ballet is now involving three of the world’s most important ballet choreographers, Hans van Manen, David Dawson and Alexei Ratmansky, each with their own signature, is of considerable significance for the international stature of our company.”

From 2024-2027, Dutch National Ballet will present, at minimum, one work by Ratmansky, as well as engage him in the artistic policy of the company and in developing choreographic talent.
“I am extremely grateful to Ted and Het Nationale Ballet for this prestigious and exciting invitation. I have been very fortunate to build a creative relationship with the company during Ted’s tenure as Artistic Director and I look forward to being part of their artistic plans for the next three years.
It is a wonderful gift for a choreographer to present work to, and connect with, audiences to celebrate ballet as an art form, something I am so passionate about.”
