After a hiatus from in-person performances, Ballet West performs live again this Spring beginning with “Precious Gems” at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre.
The program includes eight short excerpted pieces including a section from Val Caniparoli’s fan favorite Lambarena, a work that fuses the classicism of Bach with traditional African dance and music.
Also being presented are Variations for Four, Anton Dolin’s thrilling pyrotechnical showpiece for four men.
The program finishes with the rousing classic, Paquita by Marius Petipa as staged by Elena Kunikova.

Ballet West Performs Live With Orchestra
This program composed of works with a more “classical flair” – in contrast to the fall season which contained more contemporary pieces – was prepared following all recommended health and safety guidelines.
Some excerpts will be performed alongside live music played by members of the Ballet West Orchestra as well as a singer.
Ballet West II and Ballet West Academy
In the middle of this three-program Spring season is The Glass Slippers, Pamela Robinson-Harris’ take on the classic fairytale Cinderella that makes up part of the Family Classics Series.
The dancing is done by Ballet West II and students from Ballet West Academy, both feeder organizations into the main company, and is accompanied by narration.
Choreographic Festival
Closing this unprecedented season is Ballet West’s annual Choreographic Festival.
This year, the festival will showcase an exciting first-time collaboration between two Utah arts icons, the Sundance Institute and Ballet West. Principal Artist Emily Adams and Katy Jarzebowski, an alumna of Sundance Institute’s Music Film Program, have been commissioned by Ballet West to create a new ballet with original choreography and a music score for a world premiere work.
Matthew Neenan returns to Ballet West to create a world premiere. Neenan’s inventive and contemplative work has appeared around the globe, including Ballet West, where in 2014, he choreographed The Sixth Beauty, which The New York Times said, “possessed soulfulness and life.”
