Upon wrapping up their successful Black Sabbath – The Ballet run, Birmingham Royal Ballet leaps into Nutcracker to kick off the holiday season.
Last year saw the revival of Sir Peter Wright’s production with new costumes and sets, created 30 years later, by the original designer John Macfarlane. This year sees the introduction of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Virtual Stage experience, NutcrackAR.
NutcrackAR plays on the 12 days of Christmas tradition displaying Nutcracker themed visions all throughout the city of Birmingham leading up to November 17th’s opening night performance. Beginning on November 4, the city will be filled with hidden virtual gems including the Sugar Plum Fairy’s tutu, King Rat’s coat, and the iconic Christmas tree.
As soon as the 60-dancer cast and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia begin performing, theatre goers will have the opportunity to continue their virtual experiences around Hippordrome Square.
All performances of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s performances will take place at Birmingham Hippodrome.
