Following the May 16th performance of Rubies during which she danced the principal female role, New York City Ballet‘s Emma Von Enck was promoted to Principal Dancer.
Artistic Director Jonathan Stafford and Associate Artistic Director Wendy Whelan made the announcement after Jewels and before Von Enck was to dance in a featured role in Underneath, There is Light created for her by Amy Hall Garner that evening.
The NYCB 2024 Spring Season has been full for Von Enck having debuted in leading roles in George Balanchine’s Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet (Third Movement), Justin Peck’s Year of the Rabbit, and Alexei Ratmansky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. She is also scheduled for another debut as the Butterfly in the season’s closer A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
She has also reprised featured roles in Balanchine’s Symphony in C (Third Movement) and Symphony in Three Movements, Peck’s Pulcinella Variations, and Gianna Reisen’s Play Time.
Emma Von Enck
Emma Von Enck was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and began her dance training at the Royal School of Ballet. She later studied at the Cleveland School of Dance, the Cleveland Ballet Conservatory, and attended summer courses at the School of American Ballet (SAB), enrolling as a full-time student at SAB for the 2012 winter term.
In August of 2016 (the same year she received the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise), VOn Enck became an apprentice with NYCB. She joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet a year later and was promoted to Soloist in January 2022.
