Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY Presents Solos and Duets
PROGRAM
Romeo & Juliet Balcony Pas
Dancers: Fangqi Li & Tristan Brosnan
Beamish’s Romeo & Juliet Balcony pas de deux was originally commissioned by Canada’s Ballet Kelowna in 2016. It has been newly adapted for Li and Brosnan, drawing inspiration from the original text of the play to craft the movement vocabulary for this virtuosic narrative duet.
Lollapalooza
Dancers: Patrick Frenette & Betsy McBride
Music: Lollapalooza by John Adams
Lollapalooza was Beamish’s first work for The National Ballet of Canada, which premiered at the company’s Mad Hot Gala in 2018. A playful, bombastic tribute to ballet’s athleticism, set to John Adams’ dynamic composition of the same name.
Lost Touch
Dancer: Renée Sigouin
To decrease the frequency of communication (with one) over time, especially unintentionally, until no further contact takes place.
Proximity
Dancers: Joshua Beamish & Renée Sigouin
The heart generates the strongest electromagnetic field produced by the body. While this signal is strongest in contact, it is still detectable when subjects are in proximity.
Sonata in G Minor
Dancers: Luciana Paris & Jonatan Lujan
Sonata in G Minor reflects Bach’s achingly romantic second movement of Sonata in G Minor, BWV 1029: II. Adagio. The work celebrates Luciana’s illustrious career and marks decade of collaboration between Paris and Beamish.
