The San Francisco War Memorial Opera House is part of the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center located in San Francisco, CA. Along with being the home of the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet, the opera house also hosts the San Francisco Symphony, touring dance companies, and other prominent arts organizations.
The San Francisco War Memorial Opera House – designed by Arthur Brown Jr. and finished in 1932 – was the first municipally-owned opera house in the United States. It was also the location of the 1951 Treaty of San Francisco which declared U.S. peace with Japan after World War II.
