The Works & Process Fall 2025 season begins on September 3, showcasing the creative process behind dozens of performing arts organizations from across the United States. Event locations include:

The Works & Process at the Guggenheim series which takes place at the Peter B. Lewis Theater features five ballet companies: New York City Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet.
Works & Process Fall 2025 Season Ballet Highlights
New York City Ballet: Jamar Roberts (September 14 @ 7pm)
In anticipation of its premiere on the eve of the Fall Fashion Gala, dancers from New York City Ballet will perform excerpts from Jamar Roberts’ third commission for the company featuring costumes by Dutch designer Iris van Herpen. A conversation with Roberts will be moderated by Wendy Whelan, Associate Artistic Director of NYCB.
Dance Theatre of Harlem: Jonathan Stafford & Donald Williams (September 22 @ 7pm)
Ahead of the return of John Taras’s Firebird in 2026, artists from Dance Theatre of Harlem will present the ballet’s iconic pas de deux (set to Stravinsky’s score) along with other excerpts from the company’s repertory. Original Firebird cast member and former Principal Dancer of DTH, Donald Williams, will provide commentary alongside Artistic Director of New York City Ballet, Jonathan Stafford.
American Ballet Theatre (September 29 @ 7pm)
Dancers of American Ballet Theatre will perform excerpts from the company’s fall 2025 season at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center while members of ABT’s artistic team provide insights.
San Francisco Ballet and Joffrey Ballet: Tamara Rojo, Ashley Wheater, and Yuri Possokhov (November 1 @ 7pm)
San Francisco Ballet artistic director Tamara Rojo CBE, The Joffrey Ballet artistic director Ashley Wheater MBE, and San Francisco Ballet resident choreographer Yuri Possokhov will discuss their co-production, and first co-commission, Eugene Onegin. Company dancers will perform excerpts from this world premiere inspired by Alexander Pushkin’s novel, which also features an original score.
Tell Me Where is Comes From: Emily Coates ( November 23 @ 7 pm)
Commissioned by Works & Process, Emily Coates’ Tell Me Where It Comes From is a world premiere performance project delving into artifacts about New York City Ballet Founder George Balanchine to create “an unexpected portrait of his choreographic legacy”. She collaborated with:
- Ain Gordon, a three-time Obie Award and Guggenheim Award–winning writer, actor, and director;
- Derek Lucci, actor, writer, director, and founder of Open Sky Inc.;
- Charles Burnham, a leading figure in the American musical scene for more than five decades;
- Dr. Melvin Chen, professor in the practice of piano at the Yale School of Music and director of the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival;
- Krista Smith, lighting designer and interdisciplinary artist, graduate of the Yale School of Drama, and company member of KrymovLab NYC;
- Reid & Harriet, who design costumes and sets for dance productions around the world
