As of May 1, 2022, Alejandro Cerrudo will be Artistic Director of Charlotte Ballet.
He conveys both his artistic vision and his enthusiasm for his new leadership role:

Meet Alejandro Cerrudo
Since 2020, the Madrid native has been Pacific Northwest Ballet’s (first) resident choreographer. This position succeeded a 24-year career in dance in both classical and contemporary companies throughout Europe and the United States.
Cerrudo’s first professional position was at the now defunct Victor Ullate Ballet in Madrid and followed by years at Stuttgart Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and then Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the latter for which he also served as resident choreographer from 2008-2018.
Cerrudo is a sought after choreographer, creating more than 25 works for professional dance companies around the globe. His recent highlights include:
- An independent show, “It Starts Now,” which premiered in September at The Joyce Theater in New York;
- Future Memory, created last year (under COVID-19 restrictions) for Pacific Northwest Ballet;
- Dos Soles Solos, choreographed in 2020 (also amid pandemic restrictions) for Czech National Ballet’
- Now and Then, choreographed in 2018 for Hessisches Staatsballet in Germany;
- Sleeping Beauty, choreographed in 2016 for Ballet Basel in Switzerland; and
- Restless Creature, choreographed with Wendy Whelan for its 2013 premiere at Jacob’s Pillow in New York.
Charlotte Ballet’s Board of Trustees selected Alejandro based on his passion for creating a diverse and inclusive dance culture, which aligns with the Ballet’s own mission. His goal is to “enable and empower an inclusive, collaborative and innovative culture.”
