Catrina Choate-Heretoui, a former professional dancer with Miami City Ballet, Carolina Ballet, and Miami Contemporary Dance Company, has created a new event series, Ballet Journeys.
Ballet Journeys has a mission to reveal real life professional stories of success, exclusion, recovery, endurance, and resilience. By sharing these stories, Ballet Journeys provides learning and inspiration through conversation, interviews, and physical workshops from some of the world’s leading ballet voices.
It’s a place for ballet professionals, teachers, former dancers, and young professionals 13 years and up to find inspiration for their dreams, refresh ideas, renew their body, and synthesize future possibilities.
The inaugural weekend which runs from November 19-21, 2021 features Gavin Larsen, author of the recently released Being a Ballerina: The Power and Perfection of a Dancing Life. (In preparation for the virtual event, you can read more about Gavin in our interview with her.)

During this event, Gavin will talk about her journey and the ballet life with professional guest speakers:
- Dena Abergel, School of American Ballet faculty
- Cherilyn J. Lee, Editor-In-Chief of The Ballet Herald
- Steven Houser, dancer and Assistant Ballet Master of Grand Rapids Ballet.
She will also have special student panels to answer all young professional questions with the much beloved Quiner Sisters, a new company artist of Oregon Ballet Theatre, and students from SAB and the Ballet Conservatory of Asheville.
“Everyone should dance. Everyone should let their soul sing,” says Larsen.
Gavin will share not only her extensive breadth of knowledge about the professional ballet world but also her humanity for everyone with a heart for dance.
