Next week, the BalletX 2022 Fall Series will bring Philadelphia audiences two world premieres and a Philly premiere at The Wilma Theater.
The contemporary ballet’s opening program will showcase the dancers in new works by Darrell Grand Moultrie and former BalletX dancer Caili Quan, as well as in Justin Peck’s Become a Mountain.
“BalletX has become a magnet for choreographers to come in and produce spectacular works,” says Christine Cox, Artistic & Executive Director of BalletX. “This fall series features work from talented, creative and groundbreaking choreographers. It has been exciting to watch these pieces come to life in our studio and we look forward to sharing them with our audience.”

Of Sacred Impermanence, Grand Moultrie’s third work for BalletX, the choreographer says that “The creation of this piece started with the dancers. “Meeting these individuals and seeing how they moved allowed me to truly understand their talents and gifts. The work is inspired by our journey with impermanence and how now is sacred.”
Quan’s Love Letter is an elaboration of her 2020 BalletX Beyond film of the same name. “After creating Love Letter, the film for BalletX Beyond during the pandemic, it’s exciting to be able to come back home to BalletX two years later and make this work for a live audience,” she says.
Become a Mountain, choreographed by New York City Ballet‘s resident choreographer Justin Peck, will see its company premiere featuring the original score from Dan Deacon.
The cast for these three pieces include dancers Shawn Cusseaux, Francesca Forcella, Savannah Green, Annika Kuo, Jared Kelly, Skyler Lubin, Jonathan Montepara, Ben Schwarz, Ashley Simpson, Andrea Yorita, as well as dance fellows Eli Alford and Demetrious Reed.
