Dutch National Ballet’s Giselle, choreographed by Marius Petipa with additional choreography by Rachel Beaujean and Ricardo Bustamante, takes center stage this autumn at Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
Beaujean and Bustamante’s 2009 production of this beloved romantic ballet will grace the company’s home stage in Amsterdam for a twelve-show run, commencing on October 12, followed by a national tour in six major theaters across the Netherlands.
The spotlight will shine on a remarkable cast of couples who will perform the principal roles of Giselle and Count Albrecht. Among these distinguished duos are Olga Smirnova and Jacopo Tissi whose artistic journey together began at the Bolshoi Ballet. They will now reunite for Dutch National Ballet‘s Giselle, promising audiences an unforgettable display of their remarkable artistry.
The theme of Giselle, impossible love, is of all times and cultures. The main character Giselle thinks she has found her true love in Albrecht, but he is not who she thinks he is and, moreover, he is already engaged to someone else. Albrecht’s love for Giselle has fateful consequences, but even after her death Giselle is still capable of love and forgiveness.
All Amsterdam performances of Dutch National Ballet’s Giselle will take place at Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
