Olga Smirnova and Jacopo Tissi will be featured in Dutch National Ballet’s cinematic release of Giselle, choreographed by Marius Petipa with additional choreography by Rachel Beaujean and Ricardo Bustamante.
Produced by Bel Air Media and distributed by Pathe Livé, the two former Bolshoi Ballet principals will lead Dutch National Ballet‘s cast of this epitome of classical ballet in the worldwide release on Sunday, January 21, 2024. A repeat is scheduled for January 24, 2024.
Throughout Europe and in selected countries in America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, audiences will be able to watch Smirnova, the Dance Europe 2022 Dancer of the Year, and Tissi, recently appointed prima ballerina at Dutch National Ballet, dance the title role and Graaf Albrecht, respectively, accompanied by the Dutch Ballet Orchestra.
The young peasant girl Giselle falls in love with Albrecht, a nobleman already betrothed who hides his true identity from her. When she learns the truth, she becomes mad and dies. Against her own will, Giselle joins the Wilis, vengeful spirits of jilted brides who condemn Albrecht to dance until he dies of exhaustion.
