Continuing their 30th Anniversary celebration, next up for the Sarasota Ballet digital season is their fifth program.
Featuring two one-act ballets – George Balanchine’s Donizetti Variations and Principal Dancer Ricardo Graziano’s Amorosa – this will be the company’s second performance of 2021, showing the world that even a pandemic can’t stop them from bringing ballet to the people.
Sarasota Ballet Digital Season Continues
Audiences saw an excerpt of Donizetti Variations in their second program, but this time around, the complete work will be presented. Balanchine originally choreographed the ballet on New York City Ballet to mark the 100th anniversary of Italy’s unification in 1960, and it uses music from the titled composer’s famed opera Don Sebastian.
Graziano’s Amorosa will be performed for the first time since its premiere two years ago. Set to Vivaldi’s Antonio Vivaldi’s Cello Concertos, the ballet features five couples set in rich and dramatic crimson and black.
Digital Program 5 will be streamed from February 26 through March 2, 2021.

The Amorosa piece is so beautiful! It must be amazing to watch live in person…someday.
