The State Ballet of Georgia debut at the Detroit Opera House features a triple bill of ballets by renowned choreographers George Balanchine and Yuri Possokov.
The Tbilisi, Georgia based company led by former prima ballerina Nina Ananiashvili for almost two decades makes a rare appearance in the United States, performing Balanchine’s iconic Serenade and Concerto Barocco, and company staple Sagalobeli by Possokov.
“We really love to dance Balanchine – I mean, we are Georgian, and these ballets are masterpieces,” says Nina Ananiashvili (Pointe Magazine). “People love Possokhov’s Sagalobeli everywhere we perform it. It’s also very important to me to present my country, our culture, our company.… I can’t wait until we’re there, sharing our love and art with the United States.”
