The end of their 2023-2024 season ended on a high note when Artistic Director Angel Corella announced that 17 Philadelphia Ballet dancers had been promoted, effective for next year’s continuation of the company’s two-year 60th anniversary celebration.
After her performance on May 10th as the Siren in George Balanchine’s The Prodigal Son, Corella went onto the stage to share the news that First Soloist Sydney Dolan would be Philadelphia Ballet’s newest Principal Dancer.
17 Philadelphia Ballet Dancers Promoted
Sydney Dolan
Sydney Dolan, a Philadelphia native, has steadily been promoted since beginning as a member of Philadelphia Ballet II and joining the company as an apprentice in 2017. In 2018 she was the recipient of a fellowship from the Princess Grace Foundation – USA after which she advanced to the corps de ballet. Dolan was promoted to Soloist during the 2019/2020 Season. Dolan has performed featured roles in:- Angel Corella’s Swan Lake (Pas de Trois), The Sleeping Beauty (Lilac Fairy), Don Quixote (Mercedes, Queen of Dryads, Flower Girl), La Bayadère (Gamzatti, Shades Pas de Trois)
- George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® (Dew Drop, The Sugarplum Fairy), Rubies (Tall Girl)
The company also announced promotions through the ranks from Apprentice to First Soloist. For the 2024-2025 Philadelphia Ballet season, the following roster changes will be effective:
