In less than three weeks, Helgi Tomasson’s Giselle will once again grace War Memorial Opera House as San Francisco Ballet continues its 90th anniversary season.
Tomasson, who recently stepped down from his Artistic Director role, originally choreographed this epitome of romantic ballet set to Adolphe Adam’s score in 1999. Expanding on his experience having danced Albrecht in four different productions with four different companies, Tomasson added a solo for the lead male character in Act I.
Artistic Director Tamara Rojo comments on the iconic second act which takes place alongside Giselle’s tombstone:
“The whole Act 2 is a work of art like no other - the spirituality of it. Very rarely, as a human body made of flesh, is a performer asked to inhabit the uninhabitable.”
